OLDEST LIVING OFFICER (OR CREWMAN) OF USS SIGSBEE DD-502

(LT. Isett passed away March 4, 2009)

To this webmasters knowledge Lt. Harry Isett, pictured above is 98 years young and the oldest surviving DD-502 officer. He is pictured with Sigsbee veteran Billy Roberts, GM3/c (right) and this webmaster John Mastin (left). Photo was taken October 24, 2008 at Lt. Isett's home in La Mesa, Ca. During his Navy career he spent time on the USS Arizona in the late 1930's. He was one of the first to train on the super secret radar unit at Point Loma, near San Diego California.

Joining the USS Sigsbee DD-502 as a Plank Owner January 23, 1943, Harry served with pride as Electrical and Radar Officer for 2 years, 3 months and 2 days.  April 24, 1945 he was detached to the 9TH US Naval District staff at Great Lakes, IL.

Later he joined the crew of the Destroyer, USS Orleck DD-886, Commissioned September 15, 1945.

A big thank you goes out to Patricia Simons, Lt. Isett's granddaughter for making it possible to meet and talk with Harry while we were in San Diego to visit the USS CHUNG-HOON DDG 93 and the USS MIDWAY CV 41.
